AI Visibility Checklist for Business Websites
Twelve concrete things to verify if you want AI assistants and AI search features to describe your business accurately. Work through it with the pages a prospective customer would actually land on. Nothing here is a growth hack, and nothing here guarantees that an AI system will mention, cite, or recommend you.
What this checklist can and cannot tell you
It can tell you whether the basics are in place: whether your pages can be fetched, whether your facts are readable and consistent, and whether you are keeping a record of how AI systems describe you.
It cannot tell you how any AI system will answer a buyer's question. Answers differ by provider, by phrasing, and by day. Completing every item is not a score, a grade, or a prediction, and no item on this list guarantees inclusion, citations, rankings, recommendations, leads, or revenue.
What the official guidance actually says
OpenAI's own documentation states that allowing its search crawler, OAI-SearchBot, is important if you want your site to be eligible for inclusion in ChatGPT search. Eligibility is not placement: being crawlable does not mean you will be shown or cited. GPTBot is a separate crawler associated with potential model training, and it is controlled separately. You do not need to allow GPTBot to be eligible for search inclusion. OpenAI: ChatGPT search
Google states that its existing search fundamentals apply to AI features such as AI Overviews and AI Mode. There is no special AI schema type, no machine-readable “AI file,” and no separate submission process to create. Google: AI features and your website
Structured data must represent the content that is visible on the page. Markup that describes content a visitor cannot see violates Google's structured data policies, and valid markup only makes a page eligible for a search feature rather than guaranteeing it. Ticking boxes is only a way to keep your place. Progress is kept in this browser tab only, is never sent anywhere or saved, and disappears if you reload the page.
